20,000 Steps In Singapore

The Singapore Waterfront
June 2018

It is now six months since we visited Singapore and the memory of this trip is still strong and happy.  I have thought about doing this Blog update for months but just haven't for the time until today, New Years Day 2019.

We arrived in Singapore after a 17 hour flight as the first stop on our way to Borneo for a three week nature tour.  Singapore was our rest stop but it turned out to be much more, a really fun and interesting 36 hours and 20,000 steps per day of walking!

These first two photos are landmark icons of Singapore, the Merlion on the waterfront and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel that looks like it has a huge ship parked on top of it. We visited these on our first morning in Singapore starting our 20,000 steps for the day!

Chinatown and Hawker Food Markets

We spent the second half of day one walking to and through Singapore's Chinatown area where we visited the Maxwell Hawker Centre, a Buddhist Temple and took in the the sights of the street scene.

I wanted to visit Maxwell Street because of the Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice Michelin Star stall but we discovered that there is so much more to explore and taste at this cool location. Yes the Chicken Rice dish was tasty but I discovered that the nearby stall serving fried oysters was amazing.

Fried Oyster stall, a must!
It was a hot day but that is part of the Singapore experience.  Go to the Hawker Center early before noon to beat the lunch crowd and go hungry and sample several stalls like we did.  After walking through the stalls we ventured out onto the streets of Chinatown where we found a cool Buddhist Temple, a Hindu Temple and lots of shopping.  After walking and more walking we walked back to our hotel and took a cool nap before a dinner on the riverfront near our hotel.

20,000 steps on day one, exhausting but well worth every step!
